Nicolas Kurti Science Prize: Congratulations to Dr. Philip Moll

May 08, 2018

Warm congratulations to Max Planck Research Group Leader Dr. Philip Moll, who has been awarded the 2018 Nicolas Kurti Science Prize for Europe.  This highly competitive prize, sponsored by Oxford Instruments, has the goal ‘to promote and recognise the novel work of young scientists working in the fields of low temperatures and/or high magnetic fields in Europe’.  It also aims to help publicize innovative research work, and help its recipients on the path to their first permanent research position.

Philip certainly produces highly innovative work.  He has led the development of entirely new techniques for microstructuring high purity single crystals, producing precisely controlled micro- and mesostructures for bespoke experiments, many of which are carried out at low temperatures in extremely high magnetic fields.  While this well-deserved prize will further publicize his outstanding work, he needed no help in obtaining a permanent position, having recently been awarded a Professorship at EPFL in Lausanne.  We congratulate him once more, and look forward to continuation of our collaborations with him well beyond the spring of 2020 when his Max Planck Research Group here will have fully relocated to Switzerland.
