DESCRIPTION: Abstract: Superconducting qubits equipped with quantum non-dem
 olishing readout and active feedback can be used as information engines to
  probe and manipulate microscopic degrees of freedom\, whether intentional
 ly designed or naturally occurring in their environment. In the case of sp
 in systems\, the required magnetic field bias presents a significant chall
 enge for superconductors and Josephson junctions. Using a nano-Josephson j
 unction\, of only 20 nm cross-section\, and superconducting granular Alumi
 num films with critical field above 5 Tesla\, we operate a flux qubit in m
 agnetic field of up-to 1.2 Tesla. Remarkably\, the spectrum and coherence 
 of the qubit remain stable in this entire range\, and we can observe the f
 reezing of a paramagnetic spin ensemble coupled to the qubit.

DESCRIPTION: Abstract: Chemistry is all about understanding and controlling
  the properties of matter -- Where are the electrons? How do particular ar
 rangements of atoms and bonds result in the zoo of behaviors known in matt
 er? What new properties can be created by arranging atoms in unnatural con
 figurations? Today\, there are about 50 million known chemical compounds. 
 Where and how will the next billion be discovered\, and what new propertie
 s will they have [1]? In this talk\, I will highlight the progress being m
 ade to address these questions\, with a particular emphasis on the conflue
 nce of quantum materials\, quantum information science\, and data science.
  Examples will include our forays into closed loop coupling of human exper
 iment and AI/ML prediction for superconductor discovery [2\,3]\, the creat
 ion of approaches for the systematic design of complex materials [4]\, and
  the importance of advancing old and new materials synthesis methods [5\,6
 ]. As time permits\, I will highlight how these methods come together to e
 nable discovery of new chemistry\, and new physics\, and provide my perspe

DESCRIPTION:How can we make new materials and better understand how their u
 nderlying structures form? The direct observation of crystal growth and tr
 ansitions remains supremely challenging\, but gaining insight into these f
 undamental processes is central to our quest of creating materials in a ra
 tional and targeted way\, connecting structure to functionality. We build 
 self-assembly models\, study how they react to perturbations on the partic
 le and system levels\, and investigate their impact on crystal growth and 
 transformation pathways. We use simple coarse-grained models to gain syste
 matic insights into the phenomena that lead to the crystallization of comp
 lex crystal structures\, partial disorder\, or magic-size assemblies\, all
 owing us to derive the essential principles that govern the formation of m
 aterials' structures. Our goal is to use these insights to find ways to ta
 ilor crystallization pathways and to create new functional materials. Our 
 work promises to establish new pathways to materials design through simula
 tions\, which explicitly incorporate and explore phase transformation kine

DESCRIPTION: Abstract: We investigate the lattice relaxation effect on moir
 ´e band structures in twisted bilayer MoTe2 with two approaches: (a) larg
 e-scale plane-wave basis first principle calculation down to 2.88 deg\, (b
 ) transfer learning structure relaxation + local-basis first principles ca
 lculation down to 1.1 deg. Two types of van der Waals corrections have bee
 n examined: the D2 method of Grimme and the density-dependent energy corre
 ction. We note the density-dependent energy correction yields a continuous
  evolution of bandwidth with twist angles. Including second harmonic of in
 tralayer potential/interlayer tunneling and the strain induced gauge field
 \, we develop a more complete continuum model with a single set of paramet
 ers for a wide range of twist angles\, and perform many-body simulations a
 t v=-1\,-2/3\, -1/3. We further identify a series of C=1 Chern bands aroun
 d 2 from Wilson loop and edges state calculation\, which serves as the fou
 ndation point for even-denominator non-Abelian states.

DESCRIPTION: Abstract: Non-collinear chiral antiferromagnet (AFM) Mn<sub>3<
 /sub>Sn is an attractive material since this AFM exhibits a Néel temperat
 ure of 420 K and a non-negligible magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) due t
 o magnetic-octupole order and topological Weyl nature. Despite extensive r
 esearch on ultrafast magnetization dynamics in ferromagnets and ferrimagne
 ts\, investigations into such chiral AFMs are still in their very early st
 ages. In particular\, magnetic damping significantly influences both the e
 nergy efficiency and operational speed of the device aiming to utilize the
  electronic spin degree of freedom\, thus further understanding is demande
 d. Here we investigate\, for the first time\, time-resolved magneto-optica
 l Kerr effect for Mn<sub>3</sub>Sn films with a perpendicular magnetic ani
 sotropy to gain insight into the physics of octupole dynamics. The films w
 ere prepared using magnetron sputtering technique. The film stacking struc
 ture is single crystalline MgO (110) sub./W(2) /Ta(3) /Mn<sub>3</sub>Sn(30
 ) /MgO<sub>(1.3)</sub> /Ru(1) (thickness is in nm). The time-resolved MOKE
  (TR-MOKE) was measured using an all-optical pump-probe technique. The out
 -of-plane magnetic-octupole dynamics is induced by the pump laser pulse an
 d is detected via MOKE for a probe laser pulse. We observed an ultrafast c
 hange of Kerr rotation angle at the zero delay\, which is attributed to ul
 trafast collapse of magnetic octupole order. We also observed the damped-o
 scillation which would be attributed to GHz-frequency magnetic octupole or
 der dynamics.

DESCRIPTION: Abstract: Ni-Mn based Heusler alloys undergo a first-order mag
 neto-structural transition (FOMST) from high-temperature high magnetic aus
 tenite to low-temperature low magnetic martensite. The FOMST can be induce
 d by external stimuli such as magnetic fields\, uniaxial stress\, or tempe
 rature. The sensitivity of FOMST to external stimuli results in large calo
 ric effects and can be used for multicaloric solid-state cooling. A disadv
 antage of Ni-Mn-based Heusler alloys is their brittleness\, limiting the s
 haping of those alloys required for further application. We used microstru
 cture design by suction casting or additive manufacturing (AM) to process 
 alloys with beneficiary microstructure to increase mechanical stability an
 d cyclic performance. In addition\, AM also enables the processing of comp
 lex geometries. We also investigate the correlation of microstructure and 
 the thermal hysteresis of the FOMST and the transition width. By in-situ m
 icroscopy\, we can identify the nucleation sides of the FOMST and the defe
 ct acting as pinning sides for the propagation of the phase transition. Th
 e FOMST and thermal hysteresis can be specifically designed for multicalor
 ic cooling cycles by tailoring the processing method\, parameters\, and pa
 rticle size. In addition\, microstructural design by DED\, PBF-LB\, SPS\, 
 or hot compaction can significantly improve the mechanical and cyclic stab
 ility of brittle Heusler alloys. This work is supported by ERC (Adv. Grant

DESCRIPTION: Frontiers of topological quantum matter: linked Weyl rings and
  ideal Weyl ferromagnets Quantum science is driven by the synthesis of sta
 te-of-the-art quantum materials and the characterization of their exotic t
 opological states [1-7]. In the first part of this talk\, I introduce our 
 discovery of linked Weyl rings in the room temperature Heusler ferromagnet
  Co<sub>2</sub>MnGa using high-resolution soft X-ray ARPES [1\,2]. By comb
 ining ideas in condensed matter physics and knot theory\, I explicitly dra
 w the Weyl link diagram for the quantum state and show a linking number of
  (2\,2\,2)\, providing a direct experimental measurement of a new kind of 
 topological invariant in physics. In the second part of this talk\, I intr
 oduce our observation of a semimetallic Weyl ferromagnet in thin films of 
 (Cr\,Bi)<sub>2</sub>Te<sub>3</sub> [3]. In transport\, we find a record bu
 lk anomalous Hall angle &gt\; 0.5 along with non-metallic conductivity\, a
  regime sharply distinct from established Weyl materials and conventional 
 ferromagnets. Together with density functional theory (DFT)\, our data sug
 gest a semimetallic Fermi surface composed of two Weyl points\, with a gia
 nt separation &gt\; 75% of the linear dimension of the bulk Brillouin zone
 \, and no other electronic states. Using non-equilibrium molecular beam ep
 itaxy (MBE)\, we widely tune the electronic structure\, allowing us to ann
 ihilate the Weyl state and visualize a Murakami-type topological phase dia
 gram with broad Chern insulating\, Weyl semimetallic and magnetic semicond
 ucting regions. Our discovery of a topological quantum link and semimetall
 ic Weyl ferromagnet suggests new approaches to non-Abelian quantum states\
 , as well as materials synthesis methods relevant to quantum technology. 1
