Electronic structure and magnetic properties of low-dimensional transition metal oxide systems

Abstract of scientific research topic

Low dimensional quantum spin systems (spin 1/2 and spin 1) show fascinating phase diagrams with many unusual ground states. In this study, the electronic and magnetic properties of low-dimensional transition metal oxide systems depending on the linking of their structural building blocks will be investigated. Based on DFT calculations, the low energy states of these compounds will be mapped to appropriate microscopic models including strong electron-electron correlations. The influence of hydrostatic pressure on the structural and magnetic properties will be analysed combining experiment and theory.
