20 years of Max Planck partner groups in India – Satya Guin appointed head of new MP partner group
 

During an MPG delegation's trip to Asia, Patrick Cramer hands over the certificate of appointment as head of a Max Planck Partner Group at the MPI CPfS to Satya Guin.

A delegation led by Max Planck President Patrick Cramer travelled to four Asian countries from 2 to 13 April 2024: India, Singapore, Japan and South Korea. The aim of the eleven-day trip was to consolidate existing partnerships and explore new cooperation opportunities for the Max Planck Society.

The Memorandum of Understanding on scientific cooperation between the MPG and the Indian Department of Science and Technology (DST) signed in 2004 is a successful model for international cooperation. In particular, the partner group programme has developed into a especially successful and sustainable instrument for cooperation: for 20 years, it has supported Indian postdocs to conduct research in their own country after a stay at an MPI – and to maintain intensive relations with their former Max Planck Institute.

During the delegation's stay in India, the German Embassy in Delhi organised the celebratory event to mark this anniversary. Former, current and future Max Planck partner group leaders were invited. Satya Guin, former postdoc and group leader in the TQC department at MPI CPfS, had the honour of receiving his appointment as head of a new Max Planck Partner Group from the MPG President.

Currently Satya is an Assistant Professor at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani – Hyderabad Campus. Satya's research focuses on solid-state chemistry, single crystal growth of topological quantum materials, and transport properties of topological quantum materials which include the Anomalous Hall effect and the Anomalous Nernst effect. He will continue to work closely with Prof. Claudia Felser and members of the department of Topological Quantum Chemistry.

The TQC department is very pleased for him and hopes for continued good co-operation.
