Second congratulations to Dr. Mark Barber

May 04, 2018

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Mark Barber, whose Otto Hahn Medaille we announced on 20 April 2018, has also won a Springer Thesis Award.  As well as a cash prize from Springer, this second honour means that his thesis will be published as a book, as part of the prestigious Springer Theses series.  Among other things, this means that his distant relatives will be able to see him appear in an author search on Amazon!

Mark’s thesis work, under the supervision of Prof. Andy Mackenzie and Dr. Clifford Hicks, describes outstanding experimental work on the development of novel uniaxial pressure apparatus and its application to the study of uniaxial pressure in unconventional superconductors and correlated electron magnets.  The clear explanations, didactic style and superb graphics of the thesis make it ideal for publication, and this latest award is richly deserved.
