Satya Narayan Guin receives a Humboldt Research Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers

    April 03, 2018

The Alexander von Humboldt foundation, Germany, awarded Satya a Humboldt Research Fellowship for postdoctoral researchers. He is currently working as a postdoc with Prof. Claudia Felser. Satya received a PhD in Chemistry from the New Chemistry Unit, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore, India. His research interest includes synthesis, characterization, understanding structure-property relationship and thermoelectric properties of inorganic solids.

Nearly 65% of the all input energy is being wasted as heat. Thermoelectric materials can directly and reversibly convert heat into electrical energy and will play an important role in future energy management. Currently, the research in thermoelectric is focused on the longitudinal thermoelectric response to a temperature gradient, the Seebeck-Peltier effects. In contrast, the Nernst-Ettingshausen effect, the transverse thermoelectric response produced by a longitudinal thermal gradient also show a great potential in energy conversion application. As a Humboldt fellow, Satya will continue his work here in Dresden. He will use the grant to open a new research direction combining expertise from the Solid State Chemistry group and himself to study the Nernst effect and thermoelectric properties of topological semimetals.
