We mourn the loss of Prof. Dr. Rüdiger Kniep

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the death of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Rüdiger Kniep, emeritus director of our institute, last weekend (26 October 2024).
Prof. Kniep has left a lasting mark on our institute through his work and tireless commitment until his retirement in 2012. His pioneering spirit in building up the institute – he took up his work shortly after its founding – was inspiring and inspired many employees. For many of us, he will remain unforgotten as a mentor, supporter, and esteemed colleague.

Our thoughts are with his family in these difficult times.
