October 13, 2025

Claudia Felser, Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids in Dresden, received the ‘E-MRS Professor Jan Czochralski Award 2025’ for her contributions and achievements in materials science.

The award is presented every year in mid-September during the autumn conference of the European Materials Research Society (E-MRS). Before giving her talk in the plenary session at the Warsaw University of Technology, she received the E-MRS Gold Medal Professor Jan Czochralski and a commemorative certificate from E-MRS President Giuseppina Padeletti.

Additional information:

The E-MRS Professor Jan Czochralski Award is named after the famous Polish researcher Jan Czochralski. He is the discoverer and developer of the Czochralski process, named after him, for growing single crystals from germanium and silicon. This process is the basic prerequisite for a wide range of modern electronic devices and equipment. In research, it is not only used for these two elements, but also enables the production of a variety of metallic and semi-metallic compounds as single crystals.
