Full professorships for Elena Hassinger and Elena Gati

November 18, 2025

At the beginning of the 2025/26 winter semester, two of our scientists won important scientific promotions. Coincidentally, both are named Elena: Elena Hassinger and Elena Gati. We congratulate both of them on their appointments to full W3 professorships.

Elena Hassinger headed the independent research group “Physics of Unconventional Metals and Superconductors” at the institute from September 2014 to fall 2022. In 2022, she accepted a professorship at TU Dresden, but continued to conduct research at the institute as an MPI CPfS Fellow and collaborated closely with her colleagues.
In 2025, she accepted a position at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and its Faculty of Physics. At the Institute for Quantum Materials (IQMT), she will head the “New Quantum Materials” department and the “New Materials, Transport, Thermodynamics, and Mesoscopy” research group. We wish her every success in this endeavor and look forward to continuing to work with her as a fellow.
Elena Gati has been working in the “Physics of Quantum Materials” department (Prof. A. Mackenzie) since February 2021 and, in addition to her scientific research, has been involved as the institute's equal opportunities officer since summer 2023. At the same time, she was promoted to research group leader and became an honorary professor at TU Dresden.
In 2025, she was appointed to a professorship at Goethe University Frankfurt. Starting in the winter semester of 2025/26, she will support teaching on site with lectures and build up her group at the same time. She will also remain at the institute as a guest group leader for three years. We congratulate her on the next step in her career and wish her every success and all the best in her new position.
