Alexander von Humboldt fellow Emilia Morosan joins Solid State Chemistry group of MPI CPfS

Emilia Morosan is a professor of Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry, and Materials Science and Nanoengineering at Rice University. Her research focuses on the design and synthesis of new compounds with unconventional electronic and magnetic ground states, with particular interest in superconductivity, local and itinerant electron magnetism, heavy fermions, quantum phase transitions and more.  Prof. Morosan’s group uses conventional methods of solid-state synthesis, vapor transport and flux crystal growth, as well as characterization via measurements of magnetization, specific heat, and electrical transport. Emilia has received several early career awards, including the Ralph E. Powe Junior Faculty Enhancement Award, the National Science Foundation CAREER Award, the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE), and became a National Academy of Sciences Kavli Frontiers Fellow.

Last year, prof. Morosan was awarded a Alexander van Humboldt fellowship, which has motivated her visit to professor Claudia Felser’s group here at MPI, working mostly on topological insulators and high-pressure measurements. Emilia earned her PhD from Iowa State University and trained at Princeton University as a postdoctoral fellow. When not “cooking” in the lab, Emilia is cooking or baking edible goodies, or is outside running, biking or learning German.
