July 05, 2021

In January 2020, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (NANU) awarded Juri Grin with its highest honor – the V. I. Vernadskyj Gold Medal. Once a year, the NANU awards two scientist – one Ukrainian and one foreign - for outstanding achievements in natural, technical or human sciences. Academician Lukyan Anatychuk, director of the Institute of Thermoelectricity in city Chernivtsi, was honored together with Juri Grin for the work in the field of thermoelectricity and thermoelectric materials.  Juri Grin is – after Manuel Cardona from the Max Planck Institute für Festkörperforschung in Stuttgart 2010 – the second director at a Max Planck Institute who received this honor of NANU.

Due to the pandemic conditions, the awarding could not be performed at the NANU head quarter in Kyiv. And finally, last week, the Ambassador of Ukraine in Germany, His Excellency Dr. Andrij Melnyk presented the V. I. Vernadskyj Gold Medal to Juri Grin in Berlin.
