From Superconductivity to Thermal Emission Control Rare-earth nickelates have long been a model system for correlated electron physics and continue to reveal new functionalities.

In this talk, I will present our recent work on nickelate-based systems spanning from superconductivity to functional thermal management. I will first discuss advances in the synthesis and physical properties of superconducting infinite-layer nickelate compounds, highlighting the role of thin-film growth, interface engineering, and defect control in stabilizing the superconducting phase. I will then show how the same materials platform can be extended beyond superconductivity, focusing on the tunability of their metal–insulator transition and its impact on infrared optical properties. In particular, I will demonstrate how epitaxial nickelate thin films enable passive control of thermal emission near room temperature, opening new opportunities for energy-efficient thermal management. These results highlight the multifunctional nature of rare-earth nickelates and their potential as a unified platform for emergent electronic and photonic functionalities.
